The Quebec Act in 1774
The act enlarged the boundaries of Quebec to take in the area between the Appalachians and the Mississippi River north of the Ohio River. People in the Thirteen Colonies were outraged about this. It cut them off from western expansion (fur trade and agriculture). The leaders demanded a boycott of all goods from England, cutting economic ties to the home country. The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act started on March 22, 1765 and ended in 1776 when the Americans had to pay a small tax. The tax was in the form of a stamp that people had to buy and stick to everything they purchased. The money from The Stamp Act was supposed to pay for the costs of defending the American Colonies. They had no representatives in the British parliament and knew they were being taxed without their consent.
The Tea Act
Parliament granted the British East India Company Tea a monopoly on tea sales in the American colonies. The Tea Act was the final straw in a series of unpopular policies and taxes imposed by Britain on her American colonies. The Americans were angry because with only one company selling tea prices would increase. The Tea Act was the cause of The Boston Tea Party. The Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians, boarded three ships and destroyed over 92,000 pounds of British East India Company tea.
